Description

The CoDrone EDU is a programmable drone built for the classroom. Students code it in Blockly or Python, then watch the program run in the air a second later, which makes loops, conditionals and sensor logic concrete in a way a screen never quite manages.

What is included:

  • CoDrone EDU drone and Smart Controller (2 x AA batteries not included)
  • 2 rechargeable batteries, two-battery charger and micro USB cable
  • Spare propeller set, propeller removal tool, screwdriver and spare screws
  • Quickstart guide, plus drone and controller labels
  • Recommended for ages 12 and up

Seven sensors, all readable in code:

  • Gyroscope and accelerometer, for rotation and acceleration
  • Barometer, for height and pressure
  • Front range sensor for obstacles ahead, bottom range sensor for distance to the ground
  • Dual underside colour sensor, for reading surface colours
  • Optical flow, for tracking relative position

What students practise:

  • Moving from block coding to text-based Python on the same hardware
  • Using live sensor input to make decisions in code
  • Testing and debugging, with the result visible straight away

Flight time is around 7 to 8 minutes per battery, with a 60 minute charge. Flexible guards and a modular frame mean motors and propellers can be replaced individually rather than scrapping the drone. Shipped from Australian stock, and schools, TAFEs and government institutions are welcome to order on a purchase order.

7 Programmable Sensors

There are plenty of advanced sensors packed into a small package. All of these sensors can be accessed from code and used to detect information about the environment.

Barometer

For sensing height and pressure

Accelerometer

For sensing acceleration

Colour

For sensing surface colours

Front range

For sensing obstacles ahead

Gyroscope

For sensing rotation

Optical flow

For sensing relative position

Bottom range

For sensing distance to the ground

Code Sounds & Light

Code the lights and sound to indicate when you've detected an obstacle or flown above a certain height, or code them just for fun.

Programmable Controller and LCD Screen

The controller isn't just for piloting—it reads real-time sensor data and it's also fully programmable. Use code to create your own controls, draw sensor data on the screen, or create your own applications.

Safe and Durable

Flexible guards that minimize damage to the drone and your classroom

Fixable

Modular enough so that if parts need to be replaced, they can be

Stable Signal

Use up to 15 drones in a classroom without worrying about signal interference
