Choosing a keyboard

• Wired USB-C is the sensible default for a computer lab — nothing to pair, nothing to charge, and nothing to walk off with
• Bluetooth suits iPads and staff laptops, where a cable is a nuisance
• Compact models save desk space; full-size models keep the numeric keypad, which matters for maths and data entry
• Backlit is worth it in rooms where the blinds stay closed
• A separate numeric keypad is a cheap way to add one to a compact keyboard rather than replacing it

Choosing a mouse

• Wired for labs, wireless for staff and portable use
• Rechargeable models remove the battery drawer problem entirely

Desk mats and mouse pads give an optical mouse a consistent surface, which matters more on a laminate desk than most people expect.

Buying for a school? Bulk quantities on everything here, and purchase orders accepted on school accounts. Keyboards and mice are consumables in practice — ordering a few spares per lab is more realistic than one per machine.
