How to choose a classroom soundfield system
The right system depends on the room and how you'll use it. Here's a quick guide:
| If you need… | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A system you can move between rooms, with no installation | Redcat — portable, all-in-one | Grab-and-go tabletop unit: plug in and teach. Add a battery to go cordless. |
| Sound for a gym, hall, sports day or outdoor lesson | Mobile PA — portable, large-space | Battery-powered and Bluetooth-enabled, with the volume to fill big, active spaces. |
| A permanent, out-of-the-way system for one classroom | Topcat — ceiling-mounted, all-in-one | Disappears into the ceiling for a clean, clutter-free room. |
| A fixed install with separate ceiling or wall speakers | T25 — amplifier + speakers | Ideal for new builds and dedicated rooms; choose ceiling (TCQ/DRQ) or wall (WMQ) speakers to suit. |
Every system is built around a wireless teacher microphone. Add a student microphone (Sharemike) so students can be heard clearly too, and a Media Connector to play computer, panel and device audio through the same speaker.

Classroom soundfield systems: frequently asked questions
What is a classroom soundfield system and how does it work?
A soundfield system uses a small wireless microphone worn by the teacher, paired with one or more speakers that distribute the teacher's voice evenly across the room. Rather than making the teacher louder, it makes speech clearer everywhere — so students at the back hear the same as those at the front.
Do I need a portable or an installed system?
Portable units like the Redcat and Mobile PA need no installation and move between rooms — ideal for shared spaces, PE and outdoor use. Installed systems like the Topcat (ceiling) and T25 (amplifier plus speakers) suit dedicated classrooms and new builds where you want a permanent, out-of-the-way fit.
How many speakers does a classroom need?
All-in-one units like the Redcat and Topcat use a single built-in speaker. With an amplifier system like the T25, a typical classroom uses four ceiling or wall speakers for even coverage, or a single flat-panel TCQ ceiling speaker. The best choice depends on room size and ceiling type — we're happy to advise.
Will a soundfield system help students with hearing difficulties, EAL or auditory processing?
Yes. By lifting the teacher's voice clearly above classroom noise, soundfield systems benefit every student — and they're especially helpful for students with mild or temporary hearing loss (such as from ear infections), auditory processing difficulties, or those learning English as an additional language. A soundfield system supports classroom listening; it isn't a substitute for a personal hearing device.
What's the difference between the Redcat, Topcat, T25 and Mobile PA?
The Redcat is a portable, all-in-one tabletop unit. The Topcat is a permanent, ceiling-mounted all-in-one. The T25 is an installed amplifier paired with separate ceiling or wall speakers. The Mobile PA is a battery-powered portable system for gyms, assemblies and outdoor spaces.
Do soundfield systems require installation?
Not always. Portable units (Redcat, Mobile PA) work straight out of the box. Ceiling and installed systems (Topcat, and the T25 with speakers) are fixed installations best carried out by a qualified installer or electrician.
Can we order on a school purchase order?
Yes — schools and educational institutions can order on account using a purchase order at checkout. If you'd like a formal quote first, just get in touch.
