OzoGoes Around a Sundial turns telling time into a hands-on science project. In this Ozobot STEAM kit, students build their own sundial, then use it to tell the time by the position of the sun — discovering first-hand how shadows and angles mark the hours of the day. A flashlight stands in for the sun, so the activity works indoors, any time. Pair it with an Evo or Bit+ robot to add coding, or run it screen-free without a bot. Designed for ages 8 and up.
What your students explore:
- How to build and read a sundial
- How the sun's position casts shadows that mark the time of day
- Angles, shadows and the science of timekeeping
- Problem-solving, critical thinking and teamwork in a real-world context
What's included:
- Sundial, sun stand, shade, centre pin and axle to build and use
- Flashlight (to act as the sun) and a compass
- Activity board and fact cards
- Printed lesson plans and assembly instructions
- QR code to free digital lessons in Ozobot Classroom
The activities are standards-aligned, and one kit suits an individual or a small group of up to four students. To code along, you'll need an Ozobot Evo or Bit+ robot (sold separately) and a device to run Ozobot Blockly — though the sundial activities also work screen-free without a bot.
