Description
The Smart Agriculture Kit puts food production on the desk. Students measure soil moisture and switch on a pump; watch greenhouse temperature and open a vent; detect movement near a crop and set off a deterrent. It connects coding to something most children have opinions about but rarely get to test.
What's included:
- IoT:bit Wi-Fi expansion board for the micro:bit
- DS18B20 waterproof temperature sensor
- Soil moisture sensor and water level sensor
- PIR motion sensor
- Servos and connecting leads
- micro:bit board is not included — add a micro:bit V2 at checkout
What students practise:
- Deciding what number counts as "dry enough to water" and defending the choice
- Building a system that runs without a person watching it
- Block coding in MakeCode, with readings able to go to a cloud dashboard
- Connecting a technology lesson to geography, science and sustainability
Fifteen self-paced lessons for this kit sit in Sammat's Online Academy, covering irrigation, greenhouse monitoring, grow lighting, pond water levels and timed feeding. Written for Australian classrooms and sold as an add-on to the kit.
