Sammat Education would like to invite NSW Schools to participate in a collaborative Regional STEM project that involves students and teachers developing SMART HOMES of the future all powered by micro:bit technology.
At the heart of the project is the micro:bit Smart Home Kit - designed to help students get started with exploring the world of electronics with a focus on home automation.
Simply speaking a “Smart Home” is a home equipped with the lighting, heating, cooling, visual, sound appliances, miscellaneous electronic devices that can be controlled remotely (and automated) by a smartphone or a computer.
- Schools can register teams of students into the project. Suggested is max 10 students per team.
- Schools can register multiple teams and each school needs to allocate a teacher in charge of the project or team.
- Each team receives a micro:bit Smart Home Classroom Kit (10 Individual smart home packs that include micro:bits).
- Teachers participate in a Professional Learning day in Term 1 that introduces the kits and each team will be given access to online lessons and resources to help with the project.
- Students then participate in the online lessons and projects throughout Term 1 and 2. From Term 2 each team begins designing and creating their very own “Smart Home” - they will present their project on the Expo Day in Term 4.
STEAM Expo Day - Central Venue, e.g. community centre, school hall - Schools will be grouped by region.
In Term 4, students and teachers from all schools come together to present their projects in a trade display format. Parents and community members are welcome to join. Sammat Education runs a STEAM Competition with the students (separate to their projects) as a fun way to finish off the project.
