We are pleased to offer three online teacher professional development courses this term that are designed to help teachers integrate STEAM into the classroom to support student learning.
These online professional development courses are designed to give teachers a clear idea of how to incorporate STEAM into the classroom, with practical resources, learning activities and lesson ideas, as well as an explanation of the key components of STEAM integration.
Our Term 2 courses were developed in collaboration with Grant Jones who currently lectures in Primary Human Society and its Environment in the Master of Teaching degree at Western Sydney University. Grant has worked across both private and public school systems over the past 18 years. In his time he has had leadership roles in the area of ICT where he was at the forefront of ICT integration into the classroom through roles such as ICT and Innovations Leader. In 2018 he completed his Master of Education (STEM) – the first in Australia to graduate with this degree. Grant is now beginning his PhD research looking at what integrated pedagogical content knowledge primary school teachers need to teach effective and authentic STEAM in the classroom.
Our three courses on offer in Term 2 are:
Engaging K-6 Maths and STEAM based activities using Sphero (Beginners) - 17th & 24th May 2022
Sphero has been proven to be an effective teaching tool in both formal and informal learning environments. Sphero goes further than teaching maths and science. It can help students develop computational thinking skills, which are necessary if they want a chance at competing globally with other technology-rich economies.
STEAM for Librarians - 1st & 8th June 2022
An exciting way to engage children in literature. Using augmented reality, or AR, technology enables children to interact with books and stories in a new digital dimension.
Augmented Reality in the Classroom - 14th June 2022
This course is specifically designed for Primary Teachers who wish to bring STEAM technologies into the classroom. Learn how to turn your lessons into an immersive learning experience where learning comes alive right in front of your eyes. You'll walk away from the workshop confident to implement Augmented Reality into your teaching and learning programs.
