This course is specifically designed for Primary Teachers who wish to bring STEAM technologies into the classroom. Learn how to turn your lessons into an immersive learning experience where learning comes alive right in front of your eyes. You'll walk away from the workshop confident to implement Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality into your teaching and learning programs.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are two emerging innovative technologies that are now easily accessible in the classroom.

VR refers to the technology where students are completely immersed in an experience that shuts out the physical world. AR refers to adding digital elements to a live view by using the camera on a smartphone.

Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality - ONLINE VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE

During this workshop, participants will:

- discover how these emerging technologies can be easily implemented and aligned to syllabus documents;
- explore a range of VR applications that can be used in the classroom to enhance a variety of units of work;
- explore a range of AR applications already built to implement in a variety of units of work;
- develop VR experiences that align with specific units of work already slated for their classroom; and
develop AR experiences that not only align with units of work in the classroom but can also be used on a whole school level.
 

Professional Learning Hours

Completing the STEAM in Action workshop will contribute 4.5 hours of Professional Learning addressing 1.2.2, 1.5.2, 2.1.2, 2.5.2, 2.6.2, 3.2.2, 3.3.2, 3.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation.

Grant Jones

STEAM Instructional Leader

Grant has worked across both private and public school systems over the past 18 years. In his time he has had leadership roles in the area of ICT where he was at the forefront of ICT integration into the classroom through roles such as ICT and Innovations Leader. He currently lectures in Primary Human Society and its Environment in the Master of Teaching degree at Western Sydney University. Grant is a regular on the conference circuit as well, presenting all over Australia at conferences including EduTech, Leading a Digital School, National Education Summit, Digital Schools Conference, MANTLE and FlipCon Australia. In 2018 he completed his Master of Education (STEM) – the first in Australia to graduate with this degree. Grant is now beginning his PhD research looking at what integrated pedagogical content knowledge primary school teachers need to teach effective and authentic STEM in the classroom.
